What is Accessible Yoga

For me, Accessible Yoga is about adapting each pose to your body and not the inverse. It’s realising as my mentor Jivanna Heyman said that “if it is not accessible, it is not yoga”, and that is that simple.

All right but in practice, what does it looks like? Well I am working with:

  • many variations for each yoga pose
  • props, a lots of props, everything to make you feel more comfortable, or find a way to make it fit
  • dialoguing with you and finding out together what works for you
  • a lot of creativity & a constant on-going education

Find out more below about the three types of yoga that I teach.

Mat Yoga

Probably the most well known type of yoga, where we practise on a mat. It doesn’t mean however, that we do not adapt. On the contrary, I work once again here with variation for yoga poses, props such as blocs, bolster, blankets… and sometimes using the wall too.

Chair Yoga

As the name may hint, we practise yoga from a chair. It is a very good alternative for people who have a hard time getting on the floor and up, for wheelchair user, for people with chronic pain, the elderly and so many other. The chair is here just another props to adapt and create accessible yoga classes.

Bed Yoga

Bed yoga, aka a yoga practised from a bed, is one of my favourite type of yoga. It’s milder, softer, and can be used by and for everyone. We do most of the poses with our back on the mattress, often inverting the effect of gravity. It’s also very good for day with low energy and to create a cosy practice you will be able to repeat without any props.
